I don’t doomscroll so much. I doomgame. At night when it’s too early for bed but I’m too tired to do much, I’ll play games on my phone. I like the games so much that I’d rather play them even when I have the spoons to do something else. Right now I go between one where you tap on lines to get them off the screen and one where you group cards based on themes. I’ve gotten better about not spending money on phone games, but that still happens.
It’s been a good long time since I’ve played anything on my Switch. I feel like Switch games are different–more legitimate–than phone games, but they also cost more, take more time to get into, and require more brain power (at least to begin).
If I’m going to doomgame less, I need other things to reach for. This is where having books nearby and visible will be useful. Something I can grab and read a bit of. Knitting and watching something on YouTube is an option. I might make a kit so I can gluebook without having to take out a lot of supplies and materials. Some premade tarot exercises (spreads, questions, bits of lessons from books) would be great.
Earplugs or headphones will be required as well. If there’s something on the TV that I haven’t chosen, I need to be able to block it out to have any chance of concentrating on something else.
Maybe I can get in the habit of reaching for something other than my phone at night.
